Elycia & Nick's Instagrammable Wedding at Appuldurcombe House, Isle Of Wight

As a wedding videographer in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, I have had the honour of capturing many stunning weddings. Elycia and Nick’s wedding at Appuldurcombe House, nestled within the beautiful Isle of Wight, was something truly special. The day was a perfect mix of romance, creativity, and timeless elegance, set in the atmospheric ruins of this historical venue. If you’re dreaming of a wedding video that reflects the drama and beauty of a rustic setting, Appuldurcombe House is an unforgettable choice.

The Perfect Venue: Appuldurcombe House, Isle of Wight

Appuldurcombe House is a hidden gem on the Isle of Wight. Surrounded by lush green fields, farmland, and ancient woodlands, this grand estate is a stunning mix of derelict beauty and historical charm. Despite being mostly in ruins, the house provided a truly unique and dramatic backdrop for Elycia and Nick's wedding. The contrast between the grandeur of the towering columns and the rustic, quirky charm of the ruins made it an Instagram-worthy wedding venue that is perfect for a one-of-a-kind wedding video.

"The story of the house is crazy, and the venue itself is magical," Elycia shared with us. "We loved the challenge and the creative freedom it gave us."

Emotional Getting Ready Moments

Elycia’s bridal preparation took place in a charming country house atop the estate, where one of the most emotional moments of the day unfolded. Her father’s reaction to seeing his daughter in her stunning mermaid-style wedding dress was heartwarming and unforgettable. The dress featured lace off-the-shoulder sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, and a cathedral-length veil with decadent layers of tulle. Elycia added a touch of sparkle to her hair, which perfectly complemented her elegant look.

Meanwhile, Nick and his groomsmen embraced classic elegance with black tie suits, while the bridesmaids wore an array of attractive black dresses, creating a sophisticated and timeless bridal party.

Ceremony in the Ruins

Despite a bit of rain, the ceremony in the great hall ruins of Appuldurcombe was nothing short of magical. The towering columns, festoon lights, and disco balls created a dramatic and cool atmosphere. The space was decorated with lush greenery, wildflowers, and candles, creating a cozy yet sophisticated vibe that transformed the ruins into a romantic setting.

"It was the only venue we actually visited, and over two years of planning, we kept visiting and loved it more and more," Elycia mentioned. “We rented the bricks and from there, did the whole rig up ourselves."

A Fun-Filled Celebration

Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed lawn games like Jenga and sipped on delicious cocktails, making for an incredibly relaxed and fun atmosphere. As a wedding videographer on the Isle of Wight, capturing these light-hearted moments is always a joy, and Elycia and Nick's guests did not disappoint.

The wedding breakfast took place in a beautifully decorated marquee, with table names inspired by the couple’s favourite card games. The florals were elegant, featuring white roses, stocks, and freesias in soft pastels and neutral tones, alongside wildflowers that tied into the natural beauty of the venue.

Capturing Unforgettable Moments

One of the most memorable parts of the day was Elycia and Nick sharing cigars with their bridal party in the ruins under the night sky. It was such a cool, cinematic moment to capture on video, especially with the backdrop of the ruins adding to the moody, dramatic effect.

Before the night kicked off, Elycia wowed everyone with a dress change—slipping into a shorter, chic number that was perfect for dancing the night away. The party atmosphere truly came to life with the help of a fantastic DJ, and everyone hit the dance floor. It was a night full of laughter, fun, and celebration.

A Champagne Spray and a Sky Cleared for Romance

As the sky cleared after the rain, we seized the opportunity for a breath-taking couple's shoot amidst the ruins and grounds of Appuldurcombe. Elycia and Nick also treated their guests to an epic Champagne spray, which made for some incredible video moments. Their joy and excitement were contagious, and their love for each other radiated in every frame.

The Proposal & Love Story

When we sat down with Elycia and Nick to learn more about their love story, they shared the sweetest details. "We first met on Christmas Eve in 2011 at our local pub," Elycia recalled. "Even though we had so many mutual friends, we somehow hadn’t met yet. As soon as we did, we clicked instantly, and that was it."

Nick popped the question in the most romantic setting. "Nick proposed on the Isle of Wight in the winter of 2022. We were staying in a cabin at the Ventnor Botanical Gardens," Elycia said. "He had hidden the ring box in the log hamper, and when it was time to add more wood to the fire, he turned around on one knee and asked me to marry him!"

Why They Chose Us to Film Their Wedding

Elycia and Nick were referred to us by their photographer, Natalie Silvester. “We were shown your work from Natalie, and it was exactly what we were looking for,” Elycia told us. "We love the love and care that clearly goes into your work, and the creative direction around it. The whole set-up is fab, and we just really love your work!"
